Place description
The field session of IUFRO European Congress is planned on September 8th (Saturday), with two main places of interest:

After the country's largest coal mine and power plant started to work some 30 years ago, the life in small Bełchatów commune (150 km SW of Warsaw) changed rapidly. New, well-paid job opportunities and infrastructure investments came together with deep environment transformations. The most visible one is a 200 m high and 4 km wide sandy hill, formed as a result of successive coal deposit uncovering.
While amazing views of open coal basin can be easily seen from the hill, the rare visitors may also experience ancient wood structures in its dry bottom.
New established areas on the hill have been succesively passed under administration of State Forest Service and faced different restoration efforts.

A property of Warsaw Agricultural University for almost 90 years, the Station is located in village of Rogów (100 km SW of Warsaw) and comprises of 3500 ha of forest, 150-bed dormitories, hotel, canteen, social and sport facilities, research labs, seminar rooms and aula. Rogów Forest Estate is a part of larger Forest Promotion Complex.
Diverse research activities are accompanied by ecology and forest biology courses and practical training offered to students, professionals and local societies.
IUFRO Congress participants are requested to choose, and mark in registration form, exactly one of three offered thematic routes in Rogów:
